Stayed here for five days in January 2004. Because I had been injured, I required handicap access up entrance stairs and bathroom. Forget it. This is a lovely quiet hotel for couples, not tourists with broken bones. Bath was virtually impossible because of lack of handicap facilities. This is rediculous in 2004. Put some safety handrails in at least one room. Great staff were very helpful but not always prompt. The place wasn't full, just busy.
Lovely charming room was upgrade due to condition at no extra cost.Very lovely. Terrible tv and no radio. Can't use computer in room because no access to internet except through telephone dialup. DSL is standard for upscale hotels. At these prices, the Gore is a nice romantic spot, but not much sets it apart from so many others at high room rate. Need more bathroom amenities and minibar was just average.

I was looking for a hotel for my boyfriend and me with a traditional yet masculine appeal. So many of the other period hotels that I found looked too frilly. The Gore fit the bill perfectly and the decor appealed to both of us. Our room was comfortable and the staff was friendly. The hotel is well situated and within easy walking distance to many points of interest and the tube. We would definitely stay again.

The very popular bar downstairs seemed to be one of the few gathering places in the city that remained open quite late at night.

We stayed a weekend during which we attended a wedding at the IOD near St. James. The reception desk was always staffed and very cordial. The central location is a definate plus. The decor and reading room are well-suited to the atmosphere of an "old" hotel. The toilets were either not working very good or working as good as toilets in the UK ever work. The plumbing did what it should. In-room furniture could be a bit too well used (broken) but for the most part we weren't there to spend much time in the room.

The one area that was not well done was the breakfast...pass and get it somewhere else.
Very nice staff, would stay there again at 100 pounds/nite.

A delightful hotel with much going for it. Small but perfectly formed bedrooms, the four poster was a surprising delight.
However, a couple of niggles made the weekend slightly less than perfect. Our rooms were still not ready, an hour and a half after check in time,we retreated to the bar and found the bar prices to be extortionate even for London but management did us proud making up for this. One of our rooms was also presented as a double for single occupancy so only one bathrobe, sets of towels etc. This was soon rectified.
One question I would ask. Why no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms?I was told it was not in keeping with the Victorian theme. No doubt televisions and fridges are!!!
Would I use this hotel again ? Probably not .....

I boooked a surprise stay for my boyfriend and me. We had a wonderful time. The manager is extremely polite and helpful, the decor is exquisite, and our four poster bed was a hit! We had champagne in a wood panelled bar with funky modern tunes playing & our room had views of the Victorian buildings of Kensington. I would definitely stay again.

My only quibble is that we had to remind them of our breakfast order as I had to leave early for work - but once reminded it arrived beautifully presented.
